I love your portrait of the demons as spiteful little punks. I'm reminded of the Unman in C. S. Lewis' book, "Perelandra"--a nasty little child who just does meaningless sh*t.

But Jesus appears, and then in glorious liberation, "I am Mary again."

Thank you for such a thoughtful comment. I haven’t read Perelandra but my interest is piqued, thank you.

I did often think of the demons as little unruly children while writing them. Reminds me they are not nearly as powerful as some make them out to be.

Thanks for reading!

One note about Perelandra: it's the second in his Space Trilogy. In the preface, Lewis says, "This story can be read by itself but is also a sequel to Out of the Silent Planet in which some account was given of [the character] Ransom’s adventures on Mars."

I just read your story about Jonah, that unruly, noncompliant prophet. He might be the best anti-hero in the Bible!

I'm working on an Easter sermon (I'm a Presbyterian minister) featuring Mary Magdalene, the apostle to the apostles. Do I have permission to quote some of your story? Of course, I would give you full credit, and provide the link to your story. (I post my sermon manuscripts on my website Zebraview.net. https://www.zebraview.net/) You might even get some new readers!

Good note. I'll likely start with the first in the trilogy. I've enjoyed most of the fiction of his that I've read, save Till We Have Faces, but I assume that I just missed something in that one.

Oh, Jonah, I agree! I like his complexity. God was (is) so patient. :)

Yes, please feel free! I'm honored you asked and glad it can be useful to you. My heart is that the stories encourage readers to spend more time in the Bible, getting to know the character of God. So, thanks for your help. :)

Good luck with the sermon and cheers in a busy season at church!

Can you even imagine what Mary Magdalene went through? I can try, especially for the brief moments imagined and experienced alongside her in this poignant story. Spiritual warfare is a very real part of living this side of heaven. We can find evidence of it throughout scripture, as the author suggests.
